Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts his first Met performances of Strauss’s white-hot one-act tragedy, which receives its first new production at the company in 20 years. Claus Guth, one of Europe’s leading opera directors, gives the biblical story—already filtered through the beautiful and strange imagination of Oscar Wilde’s play—a psychologically perceptive, Victorian-era setting rich in symbolism and subtle shades of darkness and light. Headlining the new staging is soprano Elza van den Heever as the abused and unhinged antiheroine, who demands the head of Jochanaan, sung by celebrated baritone Peter Mattei. Tenor Gerhard Siegel is Salome’s lecherous stepfather, King Herod, with mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung as his wife, Herodias, and tenor Piotr Buszewski as Narraboth. This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing opera to movie theaters across the globe.

In the spirit of collaboration and appreciation for musical brilliance, we bring you our monthly concert series — pairing tunes from legendary masters of rock, along with some unsung heroes following in their footsteps. Settle in for an intimate vibe akin to MTV Unplugged, Storytellers and Behind the Music, as singer/guitarist Kevin Spyker performs timeless hits and hidden gems, accompanied by an array of instrumentalists from the Belmar Arts music collective.
Reserve your seats for our series launch on May 18th — highlighting the music of rock icon Tom Petty, with an opening set honoring the up-and-coming band known as Dawes...each month we will tribute two different bands.
Between songs we’ll share some history and fun facts about our featured songsters.
We’re honored to name our tribute series after the memorable Dawes song / album “All Your Favorite Bands” with the anthemic refrain:
“I hope that life without a chaperone is what you thought it'd be,
I hope your brother's El Camino runs forever,
I hope the world sees the same person that you've always been to me,
And may all your favorite bands stay together!”

Join us on Monday, May 19th in the Atrium of the Asbury Hotel for an evening of conversation with Niko Stratis talking about her new memoir The Dad Rock That Made Me a Woman.
Hailed as "a piercing memoir of trans adolesence and young womanhood amid Canada's beauty and desoltation" by Sasha Geffen, author of Glitter Up the Dark: How Pop Music Brike the Binary.
Niko Stratis is a culture writer based in Toronto, Ontario with bylines her work regularly appears in outlets like Spin magazine, Xtra, and Paste Magazine, and covering events like Riot Fest, and Warped Tour. Stratis provides a unique voice in cultural spaces seeking to work through lifelong traumas and emotional highs and lows through her work. Her column in Catapult, Everyone Is Gay, was a widely read series that explored gender and sexuality in 90s music and music criticism, and its impact on her as a closeted queer and trans woman in her teen years. Her newsletter, Anxiety Shark, is a self-published weekly essay collection using music to explore her relationship to themes like gender and sobriety.
“A book that sits beautifully with the bloodiness and bones of a working-class trans life. A wonderfully queer love letter to artists and musicians and all those who have had to bare their souls just to carve out a life in a world that has no place for them. A lesson on how to write yourself alive.”
—Carvell Wallace, bestselling author of Another Word for Love: A Memoir
