Travel back in time to 1920s New Orleans for this modern-day classic! Disney’s “The Princess & The Frog” tells the story of Tiana, a hardworking young woman with big dreams of opening her own restaurant.
However, her life takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with Prince Naveen, who has been transformed into a frog. A magical mishap turns Tiana into a frog as well, sending the mismatched duo deep into the Louisiana bayou to try to break the spell.
Featuring the voices and musical talents of many New Orleans celebrities, including Randy Newman, Dr. John, Terence Blanchard, John Goodman, and Emeril Lagasse, the film captures the magical spirit of one of America’s most fascinating cities.
“The Princess & The Frog” is significant for introducing Disney’s first African-American princess, marking an important milestone in representation in mainstream animation. It also stands as one of the last films to use traditional hand-drawn animation, making it both a cultural landmark and a celebration of Disney’s classic storytelling roots. Join us for John Waters' notorious 1972 cult classic "Pink Flamingos," starring the inimitable Divine as a self-proclaimed queen of filth competing in a grotesque rivalry for the title of “the filthiest person alive.” Waters uses camp, drag, and excess to expose the hypocrisy of moral respectability and the performative nature of celebrity. Outrageous, rebellious, and defiantly disgusting, Pink Flamingos, part of Waters' Trash Trilogy, remains a radical statement and an important chapter in movie history. In 2021, the Library of Congress selected "Pink Flamingos" for preservation in the US National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
Enjoy a cocktail and dress as Divine as you dare - prizes for best look!
Rated NC-17. This 35mm presentation of "Pink Flamingos" is part of the I. Joseph Hyatt Classic Film Series.
