Come learn how to set up sound for a live band in real time at Asbury Book Cooperative with engineer, producer, and musician, Alex Melendez.Engineer, producer, and musician Alex Melendez will guide you through the intricacies of sound in a particular space. Before you see your favorite band live, there is a whole team of people who set up every instrument, test levels of sound, and get the stage ready for a great show. Without these talented sound engineers, you would not be able to enjoy the music you know and love! Everyone is welcome to participate and stick around for an incredible live band!During this sound engineering class you will be setting up sound for local band, The Bliss Menagerie: Formed out of their collective appreciation for the muddy, gritty, and lush psychedelic sounds of the 60s, The Bliss Menagerie is composed of Fuzz Boy (Danny Cali), Gonzo Bahoo (Greg Sirico), and Goosman (Ayman Kandil).Blending their melodic sensibilities with a penchant for experimentation, the trio's sound is both nostalgic yet refreshed—drawing inspiration from the likes of King Gizzard, the Doors, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Thee Oh Sees, The Elephant 6 Collective and countless others acts. What started as a one-off session quickly became a steady collaboration with no greater goal than to continue writing songs and playing their music live.

The Dizzy Gillespie All Stars perform the music of the 40s and 50s as an ensemble of 6-8, including tunes such as “A Night In Tunisia,” “Anthropology,” “BeBop,” “Birks Works,” “Blue ‘N’ Boogie,” “Con Alma,” “Dizzy Atmosphere,” “Groovin’ High,” “Hot House,” “Oop-Pop-Sh’-Bam,” “Ow,” “Salt Peanuts,” and many more.
The line-up, which varies, includes some of the stellar musicians who used to work with Gillespie, plus some of the best and brightest young up-and-comers of the next generation of jazz.

In the spirit of collaboration and appreciation for musical brilliance, we bring you our monthly concert series — pairing tunes from legendary masters of rock, along with some unsung heroes following in their footsteps. Settle in for an intimate vibe akin to MTV Unplugged, Storytellers and Behind the Music, as singer/guitarist Kevin Spyker performs timeless hits and hidden gems, accompanied by an array of instrumentalists from the Belmar Arts music collective.
Reserve your seats for our series launch on May 18th — highlighting the music of rock icon Tom Petty, with an opening set honoring the up-and-coming band known as Dawes...each month we will tribute two different bands.
Between songs we’ll share some history and fun facts about our featured songsters.
We’re honored to name our tribute series after the memorable Dawes song / album “All Your Favorite Bands” with the anthemic refrain:
“I hope that life without a chaperone is what you thought it'd be,
I hope your brother's El Camino runs forever,
I hope the world sees the same person that you've always been to me,
And may all your favorite bands stay together!”
