PC’s TRYING TO RECOVER FROM SLUMP

ANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) – Sure, the personal computer is still a force in the nation’s workplace, schools and many homes. But there’s no denying the fact that sales are slowing – and likely to continue slow. That’s in part because the economy is making people skittish about buying new machines – and those who decide to buy are favoring products like the Apple iPad. The numbers continue to back up the slump. Market research firms IDC and Gartner Incorporated reported last week that PC shipments worldwide grew at just over 2 percent in the second quarter, short of both firms’ expectations. One of the biggest concerns in reversing the numbers: how to find new ways to sell a product that has become established in so many markets.
