NJ lawmakers want state to buy US-made flags
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A bill requiring the state to buy American-made national and state flags is advancing through the New Jersey Legislature.
State Sen. Jeff Van Drew, a Democrat from Cape May Court House, says he co-sponsored the bill because he was in the Statehouse one day when he saw a flag made in China.
The Senate State Government Committee approved it on Thursday. The Assembly passed it unanimously last fall.
The U.S. Census Bureau says nearly 8 million American flags were imported into the U.S. last year.
