JAMES BROWN EXHIBIT OPENS
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — James Brown wanted people to know that he was a big star who came from nothing. An exhibit of his belongings that’s just opened at South Carolina State University reflects that. Visitors can see his suits studded with crystals as well as the tattered bathrobe he wore when he was arrested for criminal domestic violence in 2004. The suit he wore to the hospital where he died and the one he laid out for the next day are also displayed. So are his hair curlers, his telescope, and even the bits of cotton plants and rusted slave chains he kept to remind him of his heritage. The free exhibit runs until September 1.
