Blue Ocean Sardines Recalled Over Possible Contamination
Bayonne-based Everlasting Distributors is recalling 8-ounce, frozen packages of its Blue Ocean Smoked Indian Sardine Tamban.
That’s due to potential contamination with deadly bacteria that causes botulism.
The product, vacuum packed in a clear plastic bag, was sold through retail stores in New Jersey and New York. Routine testing found the potential for contamination, but no illnesses have been reported so far.
Consumers are warned not to use it, even if the product doesn’t seem spoiled.
They can return the product to the point of purchase for a refund or call the company at 201-823-0800.
Botulism can cause symptoms ranging from dizziness and double vision to abdominal distention and trouble breathing, speaking or swallowing.
