ELVIS GOES FOR A YOUNGER AUDIENCE
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – How do you make Elvis cool to teenagers? You put him on MySpace. Expanding Elvis’ presence on MySpace.com is one of the plans for 2007 that Elvis Presley Enterprises has to reach a younger audience. It will also put more Elvis film clips and other content on YouTube. Elvis Presley Enterprises chief of marketing Paul Jankowski says there’s plenty of material in the Elvis archives that could be used for cell phones, online wallpaper or podcasts.
Getting a 17-year-old to listen to Elvis and say, “That’s hot,” is another thing, though. That’s why EPE is pulling out the stops to make Elvis appealing to young people, like the limited-edition peanut butter and banana Reese’s cup that comes out next year.
EPE is also authorizing Elvis Harley Davidson motorcycles. Jankowski says while most teenagers can’t afford them, the motorcycles will boost the cool factor of Elvis.
