SUMMARY:'Passport Cinema: Dinner and a Movie'
DESCRIPTION:This fall\, The ShowRoom Cinema will continue its partnership with Brookdale Community College to present "Passport Cinema: Dinner and a Movie\," a community-driven partnership offering free movie nights to students and local residents. The first free movie screening is scheduled for Tuesday\, October 9 at 7:30 p.m. Prior to each screening\, The Culinary Education Center\, near the Asbury Park High School on Drury Lane\, will offer a prix-fixe dinner starting at 5:15 p.m. The three-part series begins with the October 9th screening of the Spanish "Mar Adentro." Written\, produced and directed by Alejandro Amenabar\, with a tour de force performance by Javier Bardem\, "Mar Adentro" is based on the real life-story of Ramon Sampedro\, a Galician ship mechanic who is left paralyzed in a diving accident and campaigns for the right to end his own life. In 2004\, the film won a Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Following "Mar Adentro\," films to be screened in the "Passport Cinema" series include "Central Station" on November 13 and "Raise the Red Lantern" on December 11. Brookdale professor Alex Idavoy will lead an audience discussion following each "Passport Cinema" screening. The dinner\, film and post-film discussion series encourages multi-cultural community interaction through film\, an integral part of The ShowRoom Cinema's overall mission in Asbury Park."Passport Cinema" is a community-outreach partnership between The ShowRoom Cinema and Brookdale Community College to heighten film appreciation in Monmouth and Ocean County. Each film screening is free to the public\; five dollars from every prix-fixe dinner at The Culinary Education Center will be donated to the Elaine Baran Scholarship Fund.
