The City of Asbury Park's Mayor's Rodeo for Recreation The Asbury Park Recreation Department was established in 2009 with the purpose of providing recreational opportunities for the youth of Asbury Park. Our most popular program is the Asbury Park Summer Recreation Program, a six-week camp that, in conjunction with the Asbury Park Board of Education, offers children breakfast and lunch, educational morning sessions and fun afternoons. It also includes supervised trips to places such as Funtime America, Medieval Times, Funplex, and the Asbury Park beach. In addition, the program hires older youth as junior counselors, providing them with summer employment. Due to the popularity and expense of the Asbury Park Summer Recreation Program, in 2015 unfortunately 50 children had to be turned away from the camp. The next year, the City hosted its very first Mayor's Rodeo for Recreation, a country-themed fundraiser, to help ensure no child would be turned away again. The event was incredibly successful, raising over $40,000 which allowed 600 kids to attend the camp in 2016 and 2017. To make sure we don't have to turn away any children for the 2018 and 2019 seasons, the City is preparing for the 2018 Mayor's Rodeo for Recreation and we need your help! Anything you can do to spread the word will make a big difference to the children of Asbury Park this summer. Here are the details: Thursday, April 19th at the Stone Pony from 6-10pm. The event will feature a performance by Des and the Swagmatics as well as fireworks. Tickets are $85 and include a buffet and a one-hour open bar from 6-7pm. Tickets will be available for purchase on Ticketmaster, in-person at City Hall located at 1 Municipal Plaza in Asbury Park or will be available at the door. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. For more information, please contact event organizers Leesha Floyd at 732-502-5759 or Cassandra Dickerson at 732-502-5755. Thanks in advance for your help in promoting this worthy cause.
