Seeing Kurt Thum's paintings is to pause and consider nature itself, which is as he intends. In his own words, his aim is "to convey a sense of the preciousness of the unspoiled landscape." Thum's work includes the spectrum of nature's vibrant but softened palette, arranged in abstractions of landscapes or foliage. Up close, the viewer is treated to Thum's trademark - he creates texture by including organic materials, such as sawdust, ferns or other foliage in many of his works. Award winning and accomplished artist, Thum's work has been collected across the U.S. and also in Oslo, Norway. He has exhibited in multiple galleries and museums throughout New Jersey. As a further voice for our environment, Thum was a guest lecturer at the NYC Center for Art and Earth, where he delivered his talk "Art and the Environment". The Art Alliance of Monmouth County is pleased to open its exhibition season this fall featuring Kurt Thum in the windows of the gallery. Members of the Alliance will show their work in the main gallery space, in the un-juried exhibition, "Untitled." The exhibition will remain on view September 8 – October 3, Tuesday – Saturday 12-4 PM.
