On Friday May 23rd Swingadelic will be performing for the Frankie 100 event at the Central Park Band Shell from 2-5PM. This event is free to the public. The event stretches over five days in honor of the hundredth birthday of Frankie Manning, father of the Lindy Hop. It also coincides with World Lindy Hop Day and welcomes people from all walks of life, all ages, and from around the world to experience this exuberant African American social dance. Originating in Harlem, New York City in the 1920s and 1930s, the Lindy hop is done to the big band jazz of the era. This dance concert in Central Park is the Welcome Dance for the Frankie 100 event, where an expected 5000 people are coming to NYC from all over the globe. Other daily events and more info can be obtained at www.frankie100.com. Joining Swingadelic for this event is the sensational Swedish singer, trombone player and dancer Gunhild Carling. Gunhild tour the world with her band, Carling Family and regularly appears on the televised "Let's Dance" show. The eleven piece "little big band" Swingadelic has been performing at dances and concerts all over the NYC metro area for over sixteen years and maintains a Monday night residency at Swing 46, a popular dinner dance venue on 46th Street, NYC's "Restaurant Row". The band has released six CD's and is known for their hard driving swinging sound, playing music like the Big Band Jazz of Count Basie & Duke Ellington to the blues of Ray Charles and T-Bone Walker.
