Inaugural 5K HERO Walk at Brookdale Campus

765 Newman Springs Rd
Lincroft, NJ 07738

Presented by the Horne family: It's a 5K walk at the Brookdale Campus on Sunday, June 8th in memory of our 22 year old son, Chad Horne, who was a student at Brookdale at the time he and his two passengers were killed by a drunk driver back on January 28, 2010. Chad was being a designated driver for his two passengers, he had not one ounce of alcohol in his system; he is our families HERO. The guy that killed them had a .23 BAC. It has been our families mission since this happened to Chad and his passengers is to prevent these unneccesary tragedies from continuing. 3 years ago, with a little help from her friend Shannon, my sister Cheryl found the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers down in Ocean City, NJ. The following year, 6 of us walked with them and I met the Elliots, who founded the campaign, two weeks later with my husband and we've been planning to help the Elliot's mission grow ever since. They also lost their 22 year old son to a drunk driver 14 years ago. It's not a club we want to see anybody else be a part of. So, this 5K walk in June is inteded to make people aware and share the positive message, to "Be a HERO, Be a Designated Driver". We have the support of Senator Kyrillos as our Co-Chairperson and Sgt. Colangelo of the Middletown PD, WAWA as well as many other organizations who are sponsoring this event.
