Dan Fagin, author of Toms River: A Story of Science and Salvation, will be speaking at Clean Water Action's 28th annual conference, Inspire, Organize, Energize-taking place Saturday, March 1 at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ. The day also includes environmental workshops and speakers, social media and technology trainings, breakfast, lunch, and a wine and cheese reception with political and environmental leaders. Toms River is a well-documented exposť of toxic industrial plants, corporate greed, and government neglect in Toms River, NJ. At the heart of the story are the determined residents who waged a hard-fought grassroots campaign and legal battle that ultimately succeeded in holding Ciba Geigy responsible for illegal dumping into the ocean and ground and drinking water wells. In 1983, the USEPA designated it a Federal Superfund site. Cleanup measures have been underway ever since. Dan Fagin is an Associate Profession of journalism and the Director of the Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program at NYU. He will be available for book signing at the event. To register, call 732-963-9714, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit website at www.cleanwateraction.org/conference2014.
