Salt Creek Grille Participates with Edible Jersey's 'Eat Drink Local' Restaurant Week
Restaurants across New Jersey, in conjunction with the 5th anniversary of Edible Jersey magazine, will celebrate fresh-from-the-farm ingredients later this month by taking part in the inaugural "Eat Drink Local Week" offering diners a chance to enjoy special, seasonal menus featuring fresh, local foods from the Garden State.
From June 23 to 30, 38 of the best restaurants in New Jersey will participate in the statewide event, creating menus that celebrate the bounty of the Garden State.
"We've got lots to celebrate," said Nancy Brannigan Painter, publisher of Edible Jersey."After five years of Edible Jersey, we thought it was time to have a party for our local heroes, and to thank our wonderful writers, photographers, advertisers, press and other friends of Edible Jersey."
Edible Jersey is one of over 70 Edible magazines published across North America with each publication being region-specific. The New Jersey edition is one of the nation's largest and, along with the entire Edible organization, won the prestigious James Beard Foundation's "Publication of the Year Award" in 2011.
The magazine's current issue showcases Edible Jersey's Local Hero Winners of the 5thAnnual Readers' Choice Awards for 2012 are: Food Shop – Sickles Market, Little Silver; Food Artisan - The Sweet Life Bakery, Vineland; Beverage Artisan -Flying Fish Brewing Company, Cherry Hill; Farm/Farmer – Honey Brook Organic Farm, Pennington/Chesterfield; Non-Profit – America's Grow-A-Row, Pittstown; Restaurant/Chef; Tom Carlin, Gladstone Tavern, Gladstone.
"These individuals and organizations selected across six categories by Edible Jersey readers in an online voting poll, energize New Jersey's culinary community in a way that positively redefines what it means to be the 'Garden State,'" said Nancy. "We salute their efforts and are proud to be recognizing them in our magazine and at our event."
Apart from its role as part of the magazine's 5th anniversary this year, Painter sees "Eat Drink Local Week" becoming an annual celebration of the local foodshed.
"We've timed the restaurant week to take place at the start of New Jersey's peak harvest period. The hope is that it will draw attention to the importance of bringing local ingredients from the farm to the table, whether in a restaurant or within one's own home." "Eat Drink Local Week" is also being hosted by neighboring Edible publications throughout New York and Connecticut from June 23 – 30. Visit ediblejersey.com for more information.
