The Respiratory Care Association of Brookdale Community College has partnered with Great Strides to host a 5K to raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. The 5K will be on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 10 AM at Thompson Park in Lincroft, NJ. The cost is $25 per person to participate. You may register before hand at the Student Life & Activities ticket window on the lower level of the Warner Student Life Center on the Lincroft Campus or the day of the 5k at Thompson Park. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States. A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections. In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond. In 2012, nearly $40 million was raised by Great Strides to help support life-saving research, quality care, and education programs. Real progress toward a cure has been made, but the lives of young people with CF are still cut far too short. Great Strides needs the public's continued support to fulfill their mission and help extend the lives of those with the disease. Brookdale's Respiratory Care Association is committed to promoting the respiratory profession while providing the Brookdale campus community with a better understanding of Respiratory care. Their members are happy to be supporting Great Strides and working to end cystic fibrosis. Please come by and show your support for this great cause. Everyone is welcome!
