The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties will celebrate "A Community of Humanitarians" at its 17th annual Humanitarian Gala on Saturday, April 27 at Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club in Farmingdale. The black tie gala will feature cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, dinner and dancing to music by The Infernos. Radio personality Big Joe Henry of NJ 101.5 will serve as Master of Ceremonies. The Humanitarian Gala is the organization's largest event of the year, and proceeds will help to support the FoodBank mission to alleviate hunger and build food secure communities in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Last year, the FoodBank distributed over 7 million pounds of food to a network of over 260 hunger relief organizations and Hurricane Sandy disaster relief sites in both counties. Recipients of the 2013 Humanitarian Award are: • Mary Pat Christie, First Lady of New Jersey, honored for her comforting presence in our most devastated communities, for feeding our hungry and for her extraordinary spirit and leadership in the recovery effort. • The New Jersey Food Council, honored for coming together as an alliance of food retailers and supplier partners to provide food donations and support to local communities and families. • Nicholas Jennings of Jackson, honored as Junior Humanitarian for his exemplary community service, his outstanding leadership and for being a catalyst for change in his school and in the community. Maria Farhat Tanzola, Toms River and Jim Filip, Rumson are co-chairs of the event. Honorary Chair is Gina Petillo, Colts Neck.
